What was the first
Mantero 1902 scarf?

Since the 1960s, the company has been producing scarves signed Mantero Collection, creating its own collections alongside supplying prestigious Maisons. In 2013, this heritage was renewed with the launch of Mantero 1902 label, featuring a line of classic and small winter scarves inspired by the archive and instantly recognizable for their distinctive graphic style. Since then, the brand has continued to evolve, expanding beyond scarves while always preserving the spirit of the archive.

Even today, the earliest Mantero 1902 designs remain a source of inspiration for new prints. One example?

The “saddlery” motif from Archive no. 55 Dressage, reinterpreted in the FW25 collection, which you’ll discover very soon.

And what about the most iconic one?

And what about the most iconic one?

Undoubtedly, it’s the Bouquet, Archivio n. 50, a vintage, hand-drawn floral print that has become the symbol of Mantero 1902 and is now reinterpreted in fresh new colorways. But that’s not all: it also decorates our new packaging, available in three different colors, each telling the same story of energy that flows through the original design and continuously renews itself.

Today, our iconic motifs bear the Mantero 1902 round seal, formerly Mantero Collection: a circular emblem positioned in the lower right corner of the scarf that marks archival designs preserved intact over time. These designs remain unaltered but are reissued in new color variants, enriching contemporary collections with the strength of tradition. This seal serves as a trademark — a symbol that reveals the origin of our scarves: the authenticity of the archive, the value of the design, and the quality of the print.

When a design is reinterpreted — meaning updated from the original while preserving its style and allure — it carries the Mantero 1902 “string” logo, a simpler and more streamlined signature: a way to show how the past continues to inspire the present.

How is a Mantero 1902 scarf born?

***

How is a Mantero 1902 scarf born?

It all begins with an inspiration: a print from the past, a graphic detail, a color combination.

From there, an original design takes shape, hand-drawn by our designers. Often, our historic archive offers the most precious ideas: thousands of prints, fabrics, and inspirations carefully preserved since 1902. Next comes the color definition and the meticulous work of our masters of colours who develop variations. The design is then digitally refined, and the printing technique is chosen — digital or screen printing. The finishing touches define the final look, while the hand-rolled hem, crafted using the roulottage technique, seals each scarf with a gesture of authentic craftsmanship.

Is everything really made in Italy?

***

Is everything really made in Italy?

Yes, absolutely. We design, print, weave, and finish everything between Grandate and Villa Guardia, in the heart of the Como district.

Every stage takes place in our facilities or in carefully selected workshops with whom we have collaborated for years. Everything passes through skilled hands, under our attentive supervision. Here’s an important detail: the raw silk yarns come from China, specifically from the Sichuan, Yunnan, and Chongqing regions, renowned for their exceptionally high-quality fiber. In Italy and Europe, sericulture has long disappeared due to the lack of suitable climate and the volumes required to sustain large-scale production. All raw materials are fully traceable along the entire supply chain, from origin to destination.

How do you take care of a Mantero 1902 scarf?

Our timeless 100% silk twill stands out for its soft touch and the brilliant way it highlights each print. In our collections, we also explore other silk weaves and weights — like crepe, habotai, and satin — each offering a fresh take on our signature fiber. Beyond silk, our collections include cotton, wool, cashmere, and other fine materials, each with distinct qualities that call for careful handling.

To keep their beauty intact over time, just a few simple but essential steps are enough:

  • Dry clean or hand wash only, always in cold water.

  • Avoid bleach and tumble drying.

  • Iron at a low temperature, without steam, using a cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric.

A simple gesture to keep something special looking beautiful for a long time.

Absolutely yes! Colors, shapes, visual rhythm… every print has its own energy, and it becomes part of who you are. NIn the world of Mantero 1902, each design is created to tell a story, an emotion, an atmosphere, a memory. Wearing a print means carrying that narrative with you, turning a scarf or an accessory into a form of personal expression.

Our prints are much more than just an aesthetic detail, they are a visual language to express attitude and style.
