INVENTING A DREAMSCAPE:
the making of Mantero 1902 Tennis Club
Each Mantero 1902 collection comes to life through a different path: sometimes it starts from the company’s historical archive, full of inspiration and valuable references; other times, it begins with a completely new vision that gradually takes shape, step by step, leaving space for creativity and spontaneous inspiration.

The Mantero 1902 Tennis Club scarf was inspired by an idea that grew into a print expressing the effortless energy of summer, where sport, vibrant moods, and fleeting moments come together.
The Mantero 1902 Tennis Club scarf was inspired by an idea that grew into a print expressing the effortless energy of summer, where sport, vibrant moods, and fleeting moments come together.
The starting point was a clear concept defined by the creative team: imagining a sporty world, but with a light, holiday spirit, refined and evocative of that unmistakable summer feeling. From this idea, a suspended scene takes shape — a tennis court overlooking the sea, surrounded by deckchairs, beach umbrellas and floral elements that bring freshness and a sense of nature. Framing the entire design, brightly coloured tennis balls combine with the Mantero 1902 Clubinscription, adding movement and reinforcing the brand’s identity.

The process began with an extensive visual research phase: books, magazines, archive images and online references were explored thoroughly — not to replicate a real place, but to create a completely new and original landscape.
None of the elements depicted are taken from reality: the setting is deliberately surreal, with distorted perspectives and a sense of timelessness, like a blurred, evocative summer memory.

The creative approach stems from Mantero’s deep connection to its own history and tradition, and inspires a way of working that’s open and fluid — where research blends with technical precision and artistic sensibility.
As Nadia Grechina, the designer behind the print, explains: «The process was spontaneous, but always guided by a clear idea and a shared technique. We started with a few generic sketches to define the composition, and after several hand-drawn attempts, we reached the final result.”
The technique used for Tennis Club combines craftsmanship and digital tools: the entire design was hand-drawn using digital brushes in Photoshop — a choice that brings together the expressiveness of hand-drawing and the precision of contemporary tools, allowing for a painterly quality without giving up flexibility during development. Nadia has been part of Mantero’s in-house design team for two years, focusing on creating motifs and patterns. Her journey in the company began eight years ago, working on innovative projects that blend experience and exploration, technique and visual sensitivity.
